Cozumel activities to make the most of you vacation time!

Cozumel activities are diverse and encompass a wide variety of of choices. When you are planning your vacation to Cozumel it is sometimes hard to decide where to start. The reason for this web site is to give you a step by step guide that not only helps you with your logistical planning issues but also gives you personalized help from professionals that live on the island full time. The accommodations, restaurants, activities, and recommendations on this page are not paid for advertising. This is simply an open source directory that will assist you in planning your vacation while taking the "hunting and pecking" out of the equation. It simply gives you the benefit of our inside information so that your experience is the best vacation experience possible on Cozumel!

Lets first start with Accommodations. It is always a good idea to set up your "base camp" before venturing out into the open spaces or our paradise Island. Our choice for the best "bang for the buck" is Casa Colonial, Cozumel vacation rentals. Why you might ask? Here are just a few reasons:
  1. Casa Colonial is the only vacation rentals on Cozumel to ever appear on CBS Televisions "The Price is Right". In fact they have been featured annually ever since 2003 and recently renewed their contract for 2009. No other vacation rental on Cozumel can make that claim.
  2. It has been prominently featured in one of the most popular and selective travel guides as authorities on Cancun, Cozumel, and the Mayan Riviera; the Moon Handbooks.
  3. It has also been featured in Majestic World which is the real life story of a trip that is currently being made by Joseph & Farideh Ross and sponsored in part by Lonely Planet. This is Josephs second trip around the world and his stay at Casa Colonial was his favorite choice for a variety of reasons (listed on their web site).
  4. And lastly, we believe that Casa Colonial simply represents the best value/dollar ratio on Cozumel. Even the speaker of the Canadian House of Parliament (The Whip) has agreed along with many other celebrities and just plain every day Doctors, Lawyers, and "Joe the Plumber" types! :-)

After you've had a chance to settle in it is time to explore! If you do stay in town you can walk just about everywhere. The restaurants, shops, grocery store and night time activities are all centered in the town of San Miguel.

However, when it is time to explore you may want to get a rental car so that you can enjoy the many Cozumel activities by car that are spread throughout the island. Just remember that your American insurance does not do you any good here when there is an accident. We are personal friends of Ann Harris, of the American Council here on Cozumel and she has told us too many stories of people who did not heed this advise, so make sure to make insurance part of your plan when renting a care here.

Next, and most important of all you will want to start planning your activities! Since everyone has a different taste I thought I would simply write about the most popular activities that are done by the most reputable tour operators on the island with the best safety records. We will start in order of popularity.

  1. Everyone loves to eat great food. Here is a web site that represents Cozumel Restaurants based on their popularity. Just remember, they are popular for a reason. Not because they are the most expensive or cheapest; simply because everyone who knows Cozumel will agree that they are the best at what they do.
  2. Our spectacular reef system is arguably the best in the western hemisphere and for that reason Cozumel Snorkeling is a must do while on vacation. If you can float with the assistance of a buoyancy compensator (life vest), you can snorkel!
  3. One of our newest and most popular things to do here has to be Passion Island. Simply put, it is a must do while on vacation here.
  4. Ever since Johnny Depp stared in the Pirates of the Caribbean series this has been a VERY popular activity here. It is the Lobster Dinner Cruise. The pirate show is actually realistic, FUN and you get to eat Lobster or Chicken or both as part of your sunset cruise.
  5. This next activity is sometimes controversial but everyone who participates in it gives it rave reviews. That would be the Swim with the dolphins program.
  6. If you are interested in off roading adventure you need to try the ATV tour. Or maybe you want to go horseback riding instead! These two activities are both fun and will give you a chance to see the Flora and Fauna of the island up close and personal.
  7. Or maybe you would like to hang ten in the clouds instead of being a "land lubber"! Then Cozumel parasailing is for you!
  8. Another favorite thing to do is Deep sea fishing. Remember, it is not the cost of the boat that makes for a good day on the water. It is the captain and the mates that know the waters better then anything else.
  9. As many in the world know; the Mayas were an ancient people and Chichen Istza (now classified as on of the 7 wonders of the world) among other great Mayan ruins can be seen by simply making day trips to the mainland. The best part about it is that all the logistical issues can be arranged long before your arrival!
  10. Although Cozumel used to be strictly a SCUBA divers paradise; other activities have turned this paradise island into a much more diverse vacation destination. However, with over 5,000 dives under my weight belt. :-) No page that lists activities would be complete without mentioning this most impressive side of our lump of Coral Rock sitting on top of the Mexican Caribbean; SCUBA diving!

By all accounts these are the top ten activities on the island. Of course just walking around or going to the town square on Sunday night to see the live music and watch the locals while soaking up some of the wonderful culture of the island is always a wonderful alternative for those who would rather do nothing. And our famous beaches which completely surround the island can be seen in detail by clicking on the vacation guide hyperlink located at the top of this page. It is also filled with many other categories that will most likely be of interest to you as you plan your next vacation!

I sincerely hope that you will find this information useful and we hope that you will choose our island as your next vacation destination!

Warm Regards,
Bob Rodriguez
